Lousy trackpad, poor construction,
by Mauricio C. Tavares, 2010-07-18

Pros:
- It is a fast computer for its size and price.

Cons:
- Low contrast screen and no control to adjust it. You have a hard time seeing where the box you have to type in is in some sites.
- Lousy trackpad software, keeps highlighting or dragging things all the time instead of simply going from A to B, no matter how much you adjust its sensitivity. On my Vaio that simply never happens. The trackpad also has a bad finish with a dried glue like substance to make it less smooth than the case finish.
- Black smudge-orama case.
- No visual adjustment control of volume.
- Useless bloatware.
- Hot fan vent placed on the right side of the laptop, where you usually hold it since it is a small laptop (hence you get hot air on your left hand), and loud fan.
- Mediocre battery life (4hs).

On top of it, mine started giving a warning on the third day saying the fan was malfunctioning and turning the computer off. I had to reinstall windows and for now it has not come up. The screen also has a bad connection with the body and keeps disconnecting and going black for a second every time I move the laptop. I could send it back to Toshiba, but found out that the warranty is only for the US, and I'm abroad for a few months...This is the second defective Toshiba I buy....and the last.

Excellent,

I bought this to replace an Asus eee 901. I needed something small and light, but large enough to actually use. This is the best all around "netbook." I left is at 2 GB of ram, which has proven to be plenty. I did replace the hard drive with an Ocz Vertex SSD. It now performs faster than my full size notebook. The SSD also increased my battery life by about 15%.

Toshiba 11.6 inch computer,
by JEB, 2010-07-14

Great computer in a small package.
very good hi-def monitor and hi-def sound.
One of the best computers I've ever owned - and I've owned many starting in 1980.
Excellent computer for traveling with good processing capability.

Commendable battery life and overall solid performer,
by E. Souza, 2010-07-08

Overall, this is a nice compact package with a decent amount of I/O options. The configuration is not dissimilar to what other companies are offering in the same 11-12 inch range of laptops and pricing is certainly competitive. It does a fair job of heat venting, but there's no getting around the fact that this laptop will heat up noticeably when you start pushing harder working apps like HD video playback, image editing, games, etc. For simple day-to-day stuff like web surfing, checking email and so forth, it's quiet and easy to carry around.

Battery life has been commendable. I took it this weekend for a 3 day trip, using it for a couple of 1-2 hr sessions each day, putting it into sleep mode in between and I didn't ever need to take out the power supply to recharge the battery.

The chrome effects and the clear gloss plastic of the physical casing are initially annoying for their immediate and flagrant ability to flaunt fingerprints and other related smears. But, over time, once you've effectively covered the laptop with your prints, it becomes less noticeable, less jarring.

The screen needs calibration. Trying to use the display out of the box for image editing or previewing photos is a frustrating experience without calibration. The extent to which I've been able to recalibrate with built-in controls is limited though, so I still need to investigate options here.

I think this class of laptop is begging for the tablet PC treatment - i.e. ability to rotate the screen into a tablet mode and sensors to detect screen orientation. It's a shame that there seem to be few such options in the 11 inch laptop category, even as Toshiba has had experience in this area with previous Satellite models.

not the best choice,
by lea, 2010-07-03

I was excited to order this laptop for my daughters graduation, but I am dissapointed by this product. The screen flickers constantly, which makes it very difficult to read what is on the screen. If I had more time to research I probably would have picked a different computer.
