Talk about wanting to use your laptop more!,

I was very scared when purchasing this lapdesk that it would drain the battery on my laptop, but I was very wrong. With having the fan and speakers loud, I still had a nice 5-6 hours of batterlife on my laptop (not significant drain).

Lets start with comfort. It is a mesh/foam bottom. Whether you are sitting on the sofa or laying in bed, it rests very comfortably on your lap.

Fan is fairly good. The lapdesks best feature is that it allows you to set your laptop down without it overheating. Most people don't know that if you set your laptop on your bed, it prevents the hot air from escaping the vents...causing overheating/life span problems with the laptop. This lapdesk allows you to place the laptop down without this fear. The fan is not super powerful, but its nice enough to have a gentle "breeze" hit the bottome of the laptop and still be quite.

The speakers are by far the best part. They hit bass very well and have a semi-surround feeling to them. They can also get very loud so you can listen to music anywhere in the room.

Overall, this is a great purchase. I got it as Best Buy for $55, as it was on sale, so I would suggest checking with them first. If not, I still think you should get this. It is comfortable, allows for more versatility with the laptop, and makes for a great "entertainment" value as you can listen to music/movies well on it.

 

Relief from a Hot Laptop and With Sound!!,

I was interested in this Lapdesk because working with a laptop on your lap gets darn hot in the summer. When it arrived, I was a little surprised at the weight and the depth - the pictures don't really give a good indication, as I would probably have preferred something with a smaller profile. However, but it's been very effective in keeping the heat off my legs and I'm sold - have never given another thought to replacing it for something less bulky. There's a fan for additional cooling, but I have to admit that I don't really notice any difference.

The material of the padding is almost webbed and has a honeycomb appearance and it's never stuck to me or slid off my legs when my legs are covered (it's been shorts weather since I got it). Do beware that it leaves an impression on your legs that might not be the look you're going for :)

A positive of the sizeable cushioning is that if you've got the laptop sitting on your bed or floor, it raises it up a bit higher.

Another reason for the size is the built in speakers, which are great quality and easy to use. I have hearing issues and it's wonderful to have speakers that enhance the sound, as what you get from a computeris often a little muffled. I wouldn't describe myself as being particularly techie, so if I can figure out how to use them, I'd bet you can too.

At the base of the lapdesk, they've positioned two holders that prevent the laptop from sliding toward you. This has made it very secure and I've never had any problems when moving the laptop from my lap to where it's stored. I actually feel like handling the laptop on the lapdesk is safer than when I've previously handled the laptop, as I was often fearful I might lose my grip.

Overall, I like the Lapdesk and recommend it to anyone who gets tired of feeling too warm because of that laptop sitting on you - or if you want better sound. This is a very well engineered product that was given a lot of thought before being put on the market and the quality is very good.

 

Good, but...,

I've had this desk for about a month now. It has some serious benefits and some bothersome disadvantages

The good:

1. Fits perfectly in my chair on my lap and has room for a mouse (sort of, see below).
2. The fan is quiet
3. The fan works very well on my laptop which has had overheating problems even on just plain flat surfaces.
4. It is very, very sturdy
5. It was pure plug and play, even for my old laptop.

The not so good

1. It's really heavy.
2. The shape is such that it pulls air in from both behind and beneath. That means that it needs to create space beneath the tray. The padding at the back of this creates a very narrow padded edge that rests on my legs. The combination of the fabric texture and the weight makes it uncomfortable after a while.
3. The angle on your lap puts the tray higher at the rear than the front. Necessary for air flow, but using an external mouse is basically impossible because a mouse slides off no matter what posture I assume. Yes, I'm a mouser.
4. Using a mouse pad is only a partial fix for the above, and it blocks a speaker. I trimmed an old one to fit, but the mouse still slips off now and then and I have to fish it out of my chair.
5. Sound quality is just okay - a bit on the muddy side with insufficient treble for listening, but music sounds decent and if I'm working, critical listening is not a priority.

I had an old "as seen on TV" lap desk that had a beanbag bottom. It was very comfortable, had room for the mouse, and it would lay flat. Its durability was awful, which is why I chose this item.

I'm keeping the Logitech and actually do recommend it. I'll look for a higher-friction mouse pad and hope the rear padding doesn't tattoo my legs.

 

Great cooling pad and speaker system,

Bought this for my 17 inch HP laptop that always ran hot. It does its job great, my laptop never gets hot anymore. The fan is almost impossible to hear. Its comfortable to sit in my lap or good for a desk. My laptop just barely covers the speakers but not enough to make me return it. The speakers have great sound and can get pretty loud for the size. Its all i expected of logitech and more.

For a long time, I was using pillow or books as a lapdesk and then got a lapdesk from brookstone. While the brookstone lapdesk is good, it does nothing else. My Lenovo T61 was getting hotter and I felt I needed a lapdesk with a fan. Logitech's product is a perfect solution for my problem. I was just browsing the products in Amazon and found this item. It has very good speakers and is extremely simple to use. No drivers to install, nothing. Simply connect the USB cable to the laptop and you are set. Great Product, love it.
