It's almost perfect,

For me this netbook it's all terrain... fast, small, full connective, decent battery life, the biggest screen in his class.

Powerful Netbook Handles Video Well But Runs Hot,
by R. Chou, 2010-07-17

When ASUS announced the 1202n model specs at the end of summer last year in 2009, I was eagerly anticipating its release. I new everything about the specs and when I went to Asia in November-December, I knew I had my chance to pick up this powerful netbook prior to release here in the states.

And I did, the first day it was released in Taipei, Taiwan I had it. My initial thoughts were how beautiful and nicely sized this netbook was. A 12 inch LCD screen with a full keyboard that has a chiclet style. The exterior is a smooth gloss plastic and it looked good.

I was a bit underwhelmed by the duo core n330 Intel processor but was pleased with the ION video chipset. It handled video well enough.

Over the course of time, here are the issues I've experienced with the unit. The PSU (power supply unit) is real small and it actually busted on me. I had to send it in for warranty; good thing ASUS has global warranty with technical centers in the United States. Nowadays, the unit appears to run hot. I hear the fans but it just isn't running as cool as I'd like. It even gets stuck and needs to reboot at times.

I'll probably have to send it in for another warranty fix if this keeps up but other then that, I love this little machine. It is a budget computer and it is a netbook. So it is what it is.

Love the HDMI to use on the television and the size of it. Other then that, I'm sure there are better models now. I believe I had the first 1201n in North America because I bought it in Asia and had it when I came back December 4th, 2009.

Good bang for your buck,

I bought this netbook to use as my travel computer as I tend to do a lot of flying and I was tired of carrying around the heavier 15 & 17 inch laptops. So far, it been pretty good - the only real complaint I have is all the bloatware it comes loaded with. I ended up adding another 2 gigs of ram and installing Win 7 64bit and it runs pretty well now. 4 out of 5 stars for me having to take the extra time to get it working to its full potential.

It works,

I bought this for two reasons.
1. to have a lightweight, yet usable portable to lug around while traveling.
2. to be able to stream internet video to my TV in France (where I live) and where the VOD via internet market is dominated by Windows.
It is quite satisfactory in both respects. Compared to my iMac, it is, as expected, a bit slow on ordinary operations like opening files, and Windows in frustrating, but I'm getting used to it.

A bit of a disappointment,
by Pamela Zuchowski, 2010-07-11

First of all I'm definitely not a computer guru! I've had the machine for about 3 months and love its size. However, there are a couple of changes I'd like to see. First, I do a lot of Internet surfing and I can't seem to scroll unless I use my pointer on the arrows along the right edge of the browser. Once in awhile I can get the touch pad to scroll, but not often (if anyone can help me with this I'd be grateful as I haven't been able to find any useful information on-line). Also, changing the text size from the touch pad requires some patience as it takes a bit to respond. Next little complaint I have is the fact that the speakers are on the bottom of the machine (not that big of a deal)and lastly, the bottom of the machine tends to get quite hot, almost too hot to have on your lap.

Overall it's a good machine and does what I want it to. For the price I expected a little more.
